Company Settings

All Company Settings

Company Settings in Helm WMS is where you set up your business, your team, your tax rates, your warehouses and your stores. This page explains what each part does and links to its full guide.

What Company Settings Covers

Company Settings is the first group on the Settings page. It holds the details that describe your business to Helm: who you are, who works for you, how you charge tax, the warehouses you run and the stores you sell through.

Most of it is set once when you go live, then revisited when something changes, such as a new team member, a new site or a new brand. Every page in the group has its own guide, linked below.

Example: a business goes live on Helm next month. Its admin works down the Company Settings group: company details and logo first, then tax groups and defaults, then the warehouse, the store and its Shopify channel. With that in place, they add the team as users and import the product catalogue, ready for the first orders.

Before You Start

  • Where to find it: go to Settings. Company Settings is the first group on the page, with a tile for each setting.

  • Adding stores & warehouses: Add New Store and Add Warehouse sit in the group's heading, to the right of its title, rather than among the tiles.

  • Each store has its own tile: a store appears as a tile named after it, so a business with two brands sees two store tiles.

Note: exporting has no tile. You start an export from the account menu behind your name, top right, while you are on the list you want to export.

How to Set Up Company Settings in Helm

If you are setting up a new company, work through the pages in this order. Each step sets up something a later step relies on.

  1. Open Company Settings and add your company's name, logo, contacts, address and tax identifiers, then set your currency and time zone. These details appear on your emails, invoices and customs paperwork.

  2. Create your tax rates in Tax Group Settings: a tax group for each set of rates you charge, with a rate for every country you ship to.

  3. Set your System Defaults, such as the default tax group, package type and customs description, so new products and shipments arrive pre-filled. Do this after your tax groups exist, because the defaults pick from them.

  4. Set up your warehouse in Warehouse Settings: its name, default locations, address and the scanning rules your team follows in the Warehouse App. If you run more than one site, add each one as described in Adding a Warehouse.

  5. Open your store's tile, fill in its details and addresses, then connect the channels it sells through. Store Settings covers the store page, and the Sales Channels guides cover each platform.

  6. Add your team in Users, giving each person the permission group that matches their job.

  7. Bring in your products, customers and other records with Importing Data into Helm. Import in the right order: products before stock, customers before customer tags.

Tip: import five or ten rows first and check them in Helm before importing the rest. Fixing a small test is much quicker than fixing thousands of records.

Best Practices & Notes

Update It When the Business Changes

A new brand, a new site or a new VAT number all start in Company Settings. Updating the right page as soon as the change happens keeps labels, invoices and paperwork correct from the next order.

Give Every Store Its Own Details

Until a store has its own details and addresses, Helm uses your company and warehouse details instead. Filling them in for each store means every brand's labels and returns paperwork carry its own name and address.

Keep the Users List Current

Update a person's permission group when they change role, and remove them when they leave, so everyone sees only what their job needs.

FAQ

They are the next two groups on the same Settings page, below Company Settings. Understanding Helm Settings explains what each group is for.

On your store's page: open the tile named after your store and use the Sales Channels panel. Store Settings explains the panel, and the Sales Channels guides walk through each platform.

Open the list, filter it to the rows you want, then click your name at the top right and choose Export List. Exporting Data From Helm covers formats, recipients and downloads.

Yes. Each site you add runs as its own company, with its own settings and users, and you move between them with Switch Company in the account menu. Adding a Warehouse explains how.
